The Treasury Market

Whenever December is around the corner, the busyness just increases exponentially! I can definitely do with a holiday soon. Somewhere out of the city, where its quiet, and I can just put my feet up and chill! Aaaah .....

But in the meantime, I'm very busy making lots of stock for the new Treasury Market. Im so excited for it! Its this coming Friday the 2nd December in Stellenbosch at the Oude Libertas. The Stellenbosch Food Market will be happening as well, so there will be loads of yummy snacks around to fuel your shopping :)

Come and check out the market! Its going to be really great - the traders at the market have some amazing stuff! Check out The Treasury Market website or their Facebook page for some more info.

Hope to see you there!

Leathers for your Lobes

I've been feeling the need to expand my Heather's Leathers range for a while, but hadnt been 100% sure about which avenues to go. But, seeing as Ive had such a great response to the Blackberry covers (and even some requests for iPhone covers) I reckon thats definitely one way to expand, so watch this space!

BUT, I have been working on ANOTHER extension of the brand, and that is: drum roll please - dun dun duuuuuuuun:

Earrings! Now you can have some leathers for your lobes ;)

Here are a couple of pics from the range I have been working on. Let me know if you're interested in purchasing:

Blackberry madness

Ok, so I gave in on Sunday and joined the Blackberry world. Only because I cannot afford an iPhone. One day though, I will have you my pretty....

But hey, Blackberrys aren't so bad. Im quite liking mine actually. Well, Im still getting used to it and figuring out all the buttons. Its far different to my old "Samsung-can-only-call-and-sms-non-smartphone". Ha ha.

And seeing as most of the Blackberry pouches / covers are pretty boring, I decided to make my own Heather's Leathers Blackberry pouch :) It features one of my new designs on the front - I sold a couple at the market on Saturday, but more about that later.

Im thinking, maybe Blackberry covers could be a new avenue for Heather's Leathers? What do you reckon? Im pretty damn proud of it :)

I wish I could go on holiday every month!

I just got back from the most awesome-est of holidays!

GREECE!

My boyfriend and I went to the small Greek Island of Skopelos, which I found out after arriving there that this was the island where they filmed most of the film: Mama Mia.

We spent a night in Athens on the way there, and on the way back, so I got to tick off another lifetime dream of visiting the Acropolis - Parthenon. It was unbelievable to be standing next to this majestic building with so much history! It felt completely unreal. I would definitely recommend going if you ever get the chance.

Skopelos is beautiful! Such a quant little island. We spent most of our time on the gorgeous beaches, our favorite being Kastani Beach (ironically, its the beach that they did a lot of filming on for the movie). The weather was hot! An average of 35 degrees celcius everyday, with nothing but stairs to climb! Because the town is build on hills, and the roads aren't wide enough for cars, the town is basically a maze of narrow, stone paved streets with thousands of stairs. And although the island is pretty small, it has 365 churches!

I had the most amazing time, sad that's its over, but so grateful that I got to experience it! Nothing like a holiday to make you feel like a new person!

This one's a ripper!

My friend Zack plays in a band called Kill Disco (they're very cool, you should check them out), and Zack totally rocks out my brooches whenever he can. He wears the blue ipod a LOT. *Thanks Zack!*

So I thought I would make him a brooch that would represent his band.... and this is what came out.

Pretty damn awesome if you ask me.

I think Im going to add this one to the Rock n Roll collection. I guess it could work for Halloween too.
A brooch with so many uses. Nice.

Necklace for your ... well ... neck ...

I always enjoy making gifts for my friends for their birthdays. It was my friend Audrey's birthday this past weekend. She is a graphic designer and owns her own jewelry line called Papillon Belle (beautiful, check it out!) Her business cards have the most beautiful birdcage on it - with laser cutting - absolutely stunning! So in honor of her beautiful design that she did a number of years ago, I thought I would make her a birdcage necklace!

My very first Heather's Leathers necklace I have to say. It was kind of an experiment, but Im pleased to say that it came out really well. Im not sure if Im going to be making a mass of these just yet though for resale, but its fun to try new things. I'll see how it goes, and maybe I'll dabble a little more :)

But for now, here are a couple of pics of Audrey's birdcage necklace:

Market Best Sellers!

I thought it might be interesting to note what the 2 best selling brooches were of the market day!
Any guesses? ....

Here they are :)

Favourite Things Winter Fair!

Wow, what a weekend! Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who braved the weather and came out to the market on Saturday! It was such a great afternoon with loads of lovely things on sale. I wanted to walk out with something from every stall, everything was amazing. It was a great success and achievement for Heather's Leathers, as it was my first market. Thank you to all who bought brooches - you made my day!

I met some wonderful people at the market, customers and other sellers alike. One of which was Leila from Bow Peep. Such beautiful things she makes! She uses fabric, ribbon and fabric covered buttons to make her creations. And she makes brooches! How cool - brooches AND buttons! Two of my favorite things :) If I had the money, I would have bought everything off her table! I did however, get the most gorgeous brooch made by Leila herself! Make sure you check out her website!

I took a couple of snaps before the market started and the madness ensued :) Here are a couple of my favorites:
